Reina completes Napoli switch

Pepe Reina has completed his move to Napoli after passing a medical with the Serie A side, the Express understands.

The Liverpool goalkeeper will spend the entirety of the 2013/14 campaign with Rafael Benitez’s side, after agreeing a one year loan deal with the club.

The Spain international had been linked with a move to Barcelona, where he began his career, but he will now once again link up with the man who took him to Anfield from Villarreal back in 2005.

Reina’s future on Merseyside had been uncertain after the five time European Champions signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland, though he had maintained that he was happy to fight for his place with the Reds.

However, he now has the chance to play regularly in both the league and Champions League ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

The 30 year old has often found himself behind Victor Valdes and Iker Casilias in the international pecking order, though he was part of the squads that won the 2008 and 2012 European Championships, and the World Cup in 2010.
