Adebayor calls for Arsenal ´killer´ instinct

Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has called on the Gunners “to come out like a killer” next season if they are to end their trophy drought.

Sunday's 2-1 defeat away to Premier League leaders Manchester United left Arsenal nine points off top spot with only four games of the season left.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger conceded the title after that defeat.

And that loss left Arsenal contemplating a third straight season without silverware following their FA Cup exit at Old Trafford, a loss in the semi-finals of the League Cup to eventual winners and north London rivals Tottenham and last week's Champions League quarter-final defeat by Liverpool.

Wenger has insisted Arsenal won't change their fluent style of football as it offers them the best chances of success.

And the 58-year-old Frenchman said bad luck – the Gunners were five points clear at the top in February before losing striker Eduardo da Silva to a broken leg – not a lack of mental strength has been Arsenal's major problem this term.

Adebayor, who put the Gunners ahead at Old Trafford before goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Owen Hargreaves replied for United, said Wenger, who has brought Arsenal three league titles and four FA Cups, as well as an appearance in the 2006 Champions League final, had not lost his touch.

“Arsene is a great man and a great manager,” said Adebayor, who has scored 20 Premier League goals this season. “He has achieved a lot of things with this club. For sure he is going to be here.

“He has a vision to bring a lot of good players to this club like Alex Hleb, Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Cesc Fabregas and William Gallas. They are his players. So, for sure, we will win something, no doubt about that.”

The Ivory Coast striker added: “We will never give up. Last season we finished fourth so we have made a lot of progress and we deserved something.

“I still believe we are still one of the best teams in the world. We know how to achieve things and we know how to play football.

“But next season we have to come out like a killer to do something. We have the quality.”
