Andrews hails Brentford´s ´most-complete´ performance in West Ham win

Keith Andrews believes Brentford’s 2-0 win over West Ham was their “most complete” performance during his tenure so far.

Igor Thiago’s first-half strike looked like it would be enough to settle the tie, but substitute Mathias Jensen ensured they would clinch all three points in second-half stoppage time.

Brentford were dominant throughout, and could have had more goals, with both Thiago and Kevin Schade hitting the crossbar, while Keane Lewis Potter was only inches away with a curling shot in the closing stages.

The Bees finished the match with 22 shots – 15 of which came in a dominant first half – as they registered 2.3 expected goals (xG) to West Ham’s 0.3 from seven attempts.

This victory ended a run of four successive away games without a win (D1 L3), while they have now won two of their last three Premier League matches (L1), one more than in their previous seven outings (D2 L4).

Andrews was thrilled with what he saw at the London Stadium on Monday, noting how his squad is now starting to gel.

“Very content. The performance was excellent on a lot of fronts – the chemistry, the conviction,” Andrews told BBC Sport. “It was a very good performance. A lot of individuals taking the next steps.

“More than once or twice [he was worried about them having not taken their chances]. It’s the nature of the game. We managed the game pretty well but all it takes is a moment.

“I think [this was the best performance]. We’ve shown parts of games and good results, but performance-wise, this is the most complete.

“What we’ve seen from Thiago, he’ll score goals. He’s a handful. He’s a personality.

“Jordan [Henderson] is imperative. We have a young squad. He’s brought in his experience.”

Nuno Espirito Santo, meanwhile, suffered defeat in his first home match in charge of West Ham, who have now failed to win their first four games on home soil in a league campaign for the first time in their history.

In fact, West Ham have lost five successive home games in the top-flight for the second time ever, previously doing so in April 1931.

They have also conceded 12 goals across their first four home games in 2025-26, their joint-most in such a period, along with 1962-63 and 1965-66.

Nuno, who is still waiting for his first win since replacing Graham Potter last month, was frustrated by the result, and is eyeing big improvements before West Ham’s next game against Leeds United on Friday.

“It was a disappointing evening because it was a disappointing performance. It was not good enough,” Nuno told Sky Sports.

“I think we had a good spell. In the first 15/20 minutes, we had a good spell and there’s a chance, and then, after that, we got ourselves in trouble. Brentford were aggressive.

“Realising that every day is important to improve this situation, it has to start tomorrow. Responsibility, commitment, hard work and a little bit more conscious effort. We need it.”

Boos rang out at both the half-time and full-time whistles on Monday, with a lot of fans leaving the stadium before Brentford’s second goal had gone in, but Nuno is determined to turn the club’s fortunes around.

“It’s a challenge for all of us,” he told BBC Sport.

“It’s up to us to change the momentum and bring our fans back to support us. Win our individual duels. In four days’ time we need a big improvement.”
