Arsenal and Everton lead Berge race

Arsenal and Everton lead the race, also involving a number of top clubs across Europe for the signature of Sheffield United’s Sander Berge, according to Sky Sports.

The 23-year-old midfielder arrived to Bramall Lane from KRC Genk in January 2020, following some impressive performances in the Champions League for the Belgian side. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was spotted speaking to him after the game between the two teams in October 2019 in Genk, which naturally led to speculations about a potential move to Anfield. However, the Reds of Merseyside didn’t act on it then and even though there have been reports recently about renewed interest, it seems the 23-year-old is at the moment more likely to join the Blues, or the Gunners.

Sheffield United have hoped to keep the majority of their players following the mathematical confirmation of their relegation from the Premier League, but it seems that their failure to stay in the top flight has reduced Berge’s release clause from £45m to £35m, raising a number of eyebrows at clubs looking for midfield reinforcements.
