Atletico interested in Bernat

According to AS, Atletico Madrid are interested in bringing Bayern Munich’s Juan Bernat back to his native country.

The 25-year-old left-back is under contract with the Bavarians until 2019, having joined the club from Valencia in 2014. This season he has made only nine appearances in all competitions. He was substituted at halftime in the first leg of Bayern’s Champions League quarterfinal against Sevilla due to an underwhelming performance, and he is reportedly unhappy about the treatment he’s getting at the club.

Diego Simeone’s side are looking for a backup option and an eventual long-term replacement for the 32-year-old Felipe Luis, and the Argentinian manager sees Bernat as a player that ticks all the right boxes. Atletico are confident of getting the deal done this summer for a reasonable fee, with the player deemed surplus to requirements at Bayern.

A move away from such surroundings is always an interesting prospect, and it’s not too hard to imagine Bernat slowly being integrated into the Atletico team.
