Atletico Madrid interested in Eriksen

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Evening Standard.

Atletico have been among the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer, with a number of high-profile transfers completed, both incoming and outgoing. The next piece of the puzzle head coach Diego Simeone is interested in adding is apparently a creative midfielder, and Eriksen fits his designs well.

It is believed that Spurs are aware of Atletico’s intentions, and are likely to demand a high fee despite the Denmark international being already inside the final 12 months of his contract. They will, of course, be also aware that they risk losing him for free next summer should they fail to reach an agreement either with a suitor club over a transfer or the player himself over a contract extension.

Meanwhile, it appears the midfield section of Mauricio Pochettino’s team is set for a thorough overhaul, with Eric Dier also linked with a move away, and the club being linked with moves for Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos and Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis. They’ve already signed Tanguy Ndombele from Olympique Lyon for a club-record fee.
