Atletico president thinks Griezmann will stay

The president of Atletico Madrid Enrique Cerezo thinks Antoine Griezmann will stay at the club beyond this summer, as Sky Sports reported from his interview with radio show El Larguero.

The story surrounding Griezmann’s departure from Atletico has been going on for a while now. Last summer he was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and even said himself there was a “60%” chance of a move, but a transfer ban imposed on Atletico changed his mind as the Madrid club wouldn’t have been able to sign a replacement.

This year, it’s Barcelona‘s turn to court the French attacker, whose superb assist to Diego Costa on Thursday helped his team dispatch Arsenal from the Europa League. The Catalans have been reported to be ready to pay his buy-out clause, so the decision is now up to the player himself.

Atletico are however desperate to keep their prized asset and are willing to offer him a new deal, one their president believes Griezmann will accept.
