Barcelona’s pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax has hit a stumbling block, according to Sport.
The Catalan outlet reports that the negotiations for the young defender to come to Nou Camp have been stalling lately, as the 21-year-old and his agent Mino Raiola deem his market value to be on the rise at the moment. There have been talks between the club and the player about the project they want him to be a part of and Barcelona were very confident of getting the deal wrapped up before too long, but it seems de Ligt’s fine performances in the Champions League have “moved the goalposts” again.
Barca had hoped that, should Ajax get eliminated from UEFA’s elite club competition by Juventus in the quarterfinals, they would seal the deal then, but it turned out the other way around.
The player and his agent are apparently in no rush to complete a deal with the La Liga champions now as they wait to see if any offers more attractive come their way.
