Barcelona confident of securing long-term targets

Barcelona have been unable to put their plans of signing a top-class midfielder into action this summer. Their transfer failures so far include Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot and Ajax’s Frenkie De Jong.

However, according to Sport, it’s all about laying the groundwork for future deals for the Catalan giants. All three players have expressed wishes to leave their respective clubs but the clubs are refusing to sell at the moment. But at Barcelona they believe they can get two out of three deals done in the future.

Barca reportedly have a ‘non-aggression pact’ in place with Ajax over the transfer of De Jong. Spanish media have been claiming for a while now that the youngster wouldn’t consider moving anywhere other than Camp Nou, but Ajax have made it to the group stages of the Champions League and don’t want to sell.

The Catalans have been alerted to Pogba’s wish to leave Old Trafford and sign for them, but like Ajax, United are unwilling to do business this summer.

Rabiot is the only possibility that remains open at the moment, but PSG will not make a decision on that before deadline day.
