Batshuayi to stay at Chelsea

Michy Batshuayi wants to stay at Chelsea and fight for a place in the team under the command of Frank Lampard, according to Evening Standard.

The Belgian hasn’t been named by Lampard in any matchday squad so far, and the only game-time he has had this season came in the U-23 team’s 3-0 win over Liverpool this week. As for the first team, he remains behind Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order.

Batshuayi arrived to Stamford Bridge from Marseille for just over €35 million in 2016, but he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular feature of the team so far. He has been loaned out three times, to Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace. At the moment, he is behind Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order, but his aim is to try again in order to nail down a spot in the Belgian national team for next year’s European Championships.

However, he will apparently reassess the situation in January 2020.
