Many players who set the Bundesliga alight end up at Bayern Munich, wherever they were playing before. So when Timo Werner exploded onto the scene with RB Leipzig, he was naturally immediately linked with the German champions.
However, things have turned out quite differently for the 24-year-old, who made it known some weeks back that he’d prefer a move abroad to joining Bayern. He looked set to join former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, but Chelsea have now apparently taken advantage of the Premier League leaders’ reluctance to meed the striker’s release clause and stolen the march on them. Werner is now set to move to Stamford Bridge, and the Bayern boss Hans-Dieter Flick believes the Londoners are getting a good player.
