Benfica will not be able to stop Jose Mourinho from taking the Real Madrid managerial job should the Portuguese boss decide to do so, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The well-known and well-respected Italian journalist has reported that Madrid want to bring Mourinho back as their manager at the end of the season.
Romano said about Mourinho and Madrid on his YouTube channel: “Mourinho knows that Benfica want him to continue.
“So, Benfica are basically only waiting for Real Madrid to decide if Real Madrid go for Mourinho.
“Benfica know that it’s going to be almost impossible to get the opportunity to continue with Jose.
“If Real Madrid will not go for Mourinho, then Benfica are more than happy to continue with him.
“So, that remains the situation.”
Real Madrid are second in the La Liga table at the moment with 74 points from 33 matches, as many as 11 points behind leaders and last season’s champions Barcelona.
