Looking to mark their return from the international break with another statement at the Gewiss Stadium, Atalanta will host Fiorentina on Sunday evening.

Starting with the hosts, while Atalanta might have endured a downbeat campaign in Bergamo last season as they missed out on a European finish, La Dea have come roaring back this time around. Last seen heading into the international break on September 18th as they picked up an impressive 1-0 victory away at Roma, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men find just their goal difference keeping them off of top spot. With it looking like the mood around the Gewiss Stadium is at a real high, Atalanta have also collected 17 points from their opening seven Serie A outings. Unbeaten since opening the 2022/23 campaign and with their recent purple patch highlighted by a 3-1 victory at home against Torino last month, Gasperini’s side have also caught their eye with their new-found resolve at the back.

As for the visitors, managing to head into September’s international break with a much-needed 2-0 victory at home against Verona, there is no doubt that Fiorentina will be looking to build off of that display. However, while the Purples might have shocked many as they clinched a European finish last season, Vincenzo Italiano’s men have largely failed to keep up that momentum. Recording just a single win from any of their previous nine matchups across all formats, a run that stems all the way back to August 18th, the Viola have also shown some rather glaring issues on the road. Last seen on their travels getting hit with a 3-0 drumming away at Turkish outfit Istanbul Basaksehir, it should be noted that Fiorentina have lost each of their last three contests away from the Stadio Artemio Franchi by an aggregate score of 6-1.
