Competition: A-League
Market: Auckland FC win
Odds: 4/11 @ Pribet
Knowing that they can officially be crowned A-League champions this weekend, Auckland will welcome Perth to the Go Media Stadium on Sunday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Auckland might have only made their A-League debut this season, Steve Corica’s men have enjoyed a record-breaking romp. Getting the penultimate round of fixtures underway holding a six-point buffer at the top of the table, the Black Knights can officially be crowned A-League champions on Sunday morning. Last seen putting in another eye-catching display as they collected a 2-0 victory away at Melbourne Victory, the former Sydney boss has not seen his squad suffer a single defeat from any of their previous 13 consecutive appearances – a purple patch that stems all the way back to January 11th. Marking their return from March’s international break with another 2-0 win against Brisbane, Auckland have also gained a reputation for their continued success on home soil. In fact, the champions-elect have suffered just a sole A-League defeat at the Go media Stadium so far this season. In what should be a real party atmosphere this weekend, Corica’s camp are rightfully installed as a standout contender.
As for the visitors, while Perth might have sprung an upset last time out as they stormed their way to a 4-1 victory against Adelaide, the Glory have endured another public A-League crisis this season. Still sat rock-bottom of the table, David Zdrillic’s side have remarkably collected just 14 points from any of their 24 appearances this year. Suffering consecutive 3-1 losses against Western United and Central Coast on either side of opening April, Perth couldn’t have asked for a tougher task this weekend. Getting March underway with a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Western Sydney, Sunday’s guests have gained an unwanted reputation for their glaring issues away from HBF Park. Along with losing their last four away fixtures by an aggregate score of 11-3, Zdrillic’s men have notched just a single A-League win on their travels so far this season. Conceding at least a pair of goals in six of their previous seven matchups on the road, we are backing a home victory here.
