Competition: Irish Premier Division
Market: St. Patrick’s Athletic win
Odds: 1/1 @ Pribet
Looking to extend on their recent Premier Division purple patch this weekend, St. Patrick’s will travel to Drogheda on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Drogheda might have signed off May with a welcomed flurry, Kevin Doherty’s side have somewhat come crashing back down to earth. Last seen getting hit with an action-packed 3-2 defeat away at Shelbourne, the Clarets have recorded just a pair of wins from any of their last 11 straight domestic appearances – a run that stems all the way back to April 7th. Likewise, opening June with a 1-0 defeat at home against Cork, Drogheda have continued to show some rather glaring issues at Weavers Park. Including a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bohemians on April 21st, Doherty’s struggling squad have recorded just a sole Premier Division victory in County Louth since the start of March. Opening this weekend’s showdown sat in the relegation play-off spot and already tipped as a leading contender to be hit with a second-tier return, the Drogs should face another tricky challenge here.
As for the visitors, while Drogheda might find themselves in the midst of a Premier Division nightmare, St. Patrick’s are enjoying a stellar purple patch. Putting in a thumping display earlier in the week as they breezed their way to a 4-1 romp against home against Derry City, Jon Daly’s side should find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. In fact, on a run that is highlighted by a 2-1 victory against Dundalk last month, the Saints have won each of their last four domestic appearances on the bounce. Really finding a clinical edge in the final third and notching 10 strikes on their four-match flurry, St. Patrick’s should also be excited by a rampant record against Friday’s hosts. Including a 3-0 win when they welcomed Drogheda to Richmond Park on May 12th, Daly’s high-flying squad have won each of their previous five meetings against the relegation scrappers. Given the huge recent gulf in class, we are backing an away victory here.
