Two sides who find themselves battling it out at opposite ends of the Segunda table, Granada will welcome Real Oviedo to the Nuevo Los Carmenes on Sunday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while Granada might have lost their La Liga status last season, Paco Lopez’s men have their sights firmly set on securing an automatic path back to Spain’s top-flight. Last seen putting in another eye-catching display as they claimed a 2-1 victory away at Albacete, the Nasrids have gained plenty of plaudits from across the Segunda this year. In fact, now in the midst of a stellar nine-match unbeaten run, it should be highlighted that the Andalusia-based outfit have collected 23 points on their extended purple patch. With that rampant run of four underlined by a 3-1 romp away at Burgos on March 4th, Granada have also gained a real reputation for their remarkable run of form at the Nuevo Los Carmenes. Not suffering a single Segunda defeat on home soil so far this season, it should also be noted that Granada have not tasted defeat in front of their own supporters since way back in April 2022.
As for the visitors, managing to make what was a crucial return to winning ways last weekend thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Leganes, Real Oviedo are now crying out for some recent stability. However, although Los Azules might have drawn a line under their five-match winless run, Alvaro Cervera’s men will still be looking over their shoulder at the drop zone. Mustering just a pair of wins from their previous nine Segunda appearances – a run that stems back to January 13th – the Asturias-based outfit have also shown some extended issues in the final third. In fact, on what has become a remarkable run, Real Oviedo have failed to record more than a single strike in any of their second-tier outings so far this season. Suffering a 1-0 defeat when they last made the trip to Granada back in December 2018, we are expecting a similar home win for the promotion contenders on Sunday evening.
