Competition: Brazil Serie A

Market: Internacional win

Odds: 5/6 @ Pribet

Looking to extend on their recent flurry this weekend, Internacional will welcome a struggling Vasco to the Beira-Rio on Sunday night.

Starting with the hosts, while Internacional might have endued a public May wobble, the Brazilian heavyweights are enjoying an eye-catching recent flurry. Despite having to settle for a 1-1 draw away at Nacional while on Copa Libertadores duties in midweek, Mano Menezes’ side are unbeaten in each of their last five straight appearances across all competitions. Mounting a stellar Copa do Brasil comeback at home against America MG as they punched their semi-final ticket, the Colorado should be smelling the chance to make another statement here. Simply with their sights set on finding a route into the top-half on Sunday night, Internacional should also be excited by their continued success on home soil. Including a routine 2-0 victory against Bahia on May 28th, Menezes’ side have lost just one of their previous eight showdowns at the Beira-Rio – a run that stems all the way back to the end of March. Clinching back-to-back victories against Sunday’s guests, the Reds are rightfully tipped as a standout pick here.

As for the visitors, while Internacional might be riding a recent wave of momentum, the same cannot be said for a struggling Vasco. Last seen putting in a nightmare display on home soil as they were hit with a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Flamengo, Mauricio Barbieri’s men are tipped as a runaway contender to be hit with an immediate Serie B return. Collecting just six points from their opening nine top-flight appearances, the Rio-based outfit have come under a huge amount of scrutiny. Along with signing off May with a 2-0 loss away at Fortaleza, Sunday’s guests have lost each of their last four outings by an aggregate score of 11-3. Showing a string of defensive issues, it should also be noted that Vasco have failed to win any of their last eight straight top-flight battles. With that woeful run of form stemming all the way back to April 15th, Barbieri’s downbeat squad will know that they face a huge challenge this weekend.
