Competition: Ligue 1
Market: Lille win
Odds: 2/5 @ Pribet
Looking to skyrocket themselves into bronze medal position on Sunday afternoon, Lille will welcome Le Havre to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
Starting with the hosts, while Lille might have watched their Europa League adventure come to a routine end last month as they slumped to a 3-0 aggregate defeat against Aston Villa, the Mastiffs have embarked on a real domestic romp. Last seen putting in a gritty performance as they clinched a 1-0 victory away at Ligue 1 newcomers Paris FC, Bruno Genesio’s men open this weekend’s fixtures sat within touching distance of jumping into bronze medal position. Enjoying what has become a resurgent run of form, Lille have now registered 16 points from their previous six Ligue 1 appearances and they will certainly be smelling another golden opportunity when they return to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. With their stellar purple pact highlighted by a 4-0 romp away at Toulouse on April 12th, Sunday’s hosts will also be excited by their defensive grit. In fact, Genesio’s camp have not conceded a single strike in any of their four top-flight matchups since returning from March’s international break.
As for the visitors, while Le Havre might have all but mathematically extended on their Ligue 1 status for another campaign, the Dean Club are largely limping their way over the finishing line. Last seen getting hit late heartbreak on home soil as they eventually had to settle for a remarkable 4-4 stalemate against Metz, Didier Digard’s side have now played out a draw in all of their previous four consecutive Ligue 1 appearances. Heading into March’s international break with a lively 3-2 defeat at the hands of Paris FC, the Normandy-based outfit are without a win from any of their last nine attempts – a winless rut that stems back to February 15th. Likewise, mustering just a sole top-flight clean sheet since the end of January, Le Havre have shown some rather glaring defensive struggles. Facing what is a stern examination when they travel to the Champions League chasers this weekend, it should also be noted that Sunday’s guests have not recorded an away clean sheet since the start of November.
