Competition: League One

Market: Luton Town win

Odds: 2/5 @ BetUS

Turning their attention back to League One action on Wednesday night, Luton will welcome Northampton to Kenilworth Road.

Starting with the hosts, crowned EFL Trophy champions following a 3-1 victory against Stockport at Wembley, Luton certainly find the mood in their camp at a red-hot high. Clearly enjoying life under Jack Wilshere’s guidance, the Hatters are riding a major wave of momentum when they will certainly be given a heroes return at Kenilworth Road on Wednesday night. Last seen in League One action putting in another dominant display as they stormed their way to a thumping 3-0 win away at AFC Wimbledon, Wilshere’s side are desperate to make a late charge for the play-off places. Getting their midweek showdown underway sat six points adrift of the top-six, Luton have won all of their last three appearances across all competitions by an aggregate score of 8-1. Despite having a real battle on their hands in the race to skyrocket into the play-off places, Wednesday’s hosts have registered 12 points from their previous five League One matchups. With the mood around Kenilworth Road at a season-high, Luton will certainly be smelling a golden opportunity here.

As for the visitors, while Luton might be enjoying a public fairytale, Northampton find themselves at the heart of a League One nightmare. Last seen over the weekend falling to a routine 3-1 loss at home against Wigan, their fate looks set to be officially confirmed on Wednesday night. Sat 15 points adrift of safety with just five matchups remaining, interim boss Colin Calderwood will be bracing himself for another another stern examination here. Signing off March with a 4-1 drumming at the hands of Mansfield, the Cobblers have now lost all of their previous seven consecutive appearances across all competitions – a rut that stems back to a 1-1 stalemate against Peterborough on February 28th. In fact, Northampton have also failed to win any of their last 12 straight outings (10 defeats, two draws). Hit with a 2-1 loss when they travelled to Kenilworth Road for an EFL Trophy showdown back on March 4th, we are expecting a similar outcome on Wednesday night.
