Competition: A-League

Market: Wellington Phoenix double chance

Odds: 2/3 @ 888sport

Looking to spring an upset on their travels on Friday morning, Wellington will make the trip to AAMI Park when they meet Melbourne Victory.

Starting with the hosts, while Melbourne Victory might have clinched a silver medal finish last season, Tony Popovic’s men are enduring a real A-League nightmare this time around. Last seen putting in another downbeat display as they were hit with a 2-1 loss at home against Sydney, the one-time Perth boss finds his side sat rock-bottom of the table. Claiming just 11 points from their 13 top-flight appearances on either side of the World Cup break, Popovic’s struggling squad should face another tough test on Friday morning. Likewise, on a run that is highlighted by a 3-1 drumming at the hands of Perth on January 21st, the Victory have collected just a single point from their last six A-League outings. It should also be noted, this weekend’s hosts have recorded just a sole win at AAMI Park in the end of April.

As for the visitors, while Wellington might have been disappointed after eventually settling for a point at home against Perth last weekend, the mood in Ufuk Talay’s camp should be at a continued high. Really impressing since opening 2023 and looking to lay down another marker on Friday morning, it should be highlighted that Phoenix are in the midst of a four-match A-League unbeaten run. With their recent purple patch underlined by a 1-0 victory away at Sydney on January 6th, Wellington have also lost just one of their last eight domestic showdowns. With that run stemming all the way back to the middle of November, Talay’s side have also caught the eye with their extended success on the road. Unbeaten away from the Sky Stadium since October 21st, we’re backing an away double chance here.

Bet: Wellington Phoenix double chance against Melbourne Victory 2/3 for Friday’s A-League matchup @ 888sport
