Looking to extend their buffer in the Champions League spots, RB Leipzig will welcome a struggling Werder Bremen to the Red Bull Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Starting with the hosts, while RB Leipzig might have accepted that any chance of a shock title charge is off the cards, Marco Rose’s side are enjoying what has been an extended purple patch. Last seen putting in another eye-catching display as they clinched a 1-0 victory away at Freiburg, the Red Bulls now find themselves sat firmly in pole position to punch another Champions League ticket in 2023. Ending the season with a real flurry, the former Borussia Dortmund boss has seen his side win six of their last seven domestic appearances across all competitions – a run that stems back to April 1st. With their extended flurry highlighted by a 5-1 romp against Freiburg on May 2nd as they booked their spot in this year’s DFP Pokal final, Leipzig are rightfully tipped as a standout pick here. It should also be noted, Rose’s high-flying squad have mustered 15 points from their last six Bundesliga contests on home soil.

As for the visitors, while Werder Bremen might have claimed a much-needed 4-2 win away at Hertha Berlin on April 22nd, it appears that might have just been a minor boost for Ole Werner’s squad. Last seen getting hit with a 2-1 defeat at home against defending champions Bayern Munich, the River Islanders have recorded just a single win from any of their last nine Bundesliga appearances. Signing off April with another flat display as they suffered a 2-1 defeat away at Schalke, the former Holstein Kiel boss will have a growing headache over his side’s defensive struggles. In fact, Bremen have now shipped a pair of goals in each of their previous nine straight outings. Knowing they will face another real test when they travel to the Red Bull Arena on Sunday afternoon, Werner’s men should also be worried by their extended issues against the Champions League chasers. Failing to win any of their last six meetings against Leipzig, we are expecting a home victory here.
