Competition: League One

Market: Sheffield Wednesday win

Odds: 8/11 @ 888sport

Hoping to break into the automatic promotion places on Saturday afternoon, Sheffield Wednesday will welcome Barnsley to Hillsborough.

Starting with the hosts, after crashing out of the EFL Cup away at Bradford earlier in the week, Sheffield Wednesday should be glad to make a return to League One duties here. While the Owls might have failed to book an immediate Championship return last season, Darren Moore’s men are once again tipped as a leading promotion pick. Last seen on third-tier action picking up a stellar 5-0 romp at home against Forest Green, the former West Brom boss has seen his side gain plenty of plaudits. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures sat just a single point adrift of breaking into the automatic promotion spots, it should be noted that Sheffield Wednesday have won each of their last three League One outings. Likewise, Moore’s side have also won their opening four domestic showdowns at Hillsborough by an aggregate score of 11-0.

As for the visitors, after losing their Championship status back in May, Barnsley have really struggled to find any momentum since making their League One return. Putting in a nightmare display earlier in the week as they were hit with a shock 3-0 drumming at home against Lincoln while on EFL Cup duties, Michael Duff’s side find themselves battling it out in the bottom-half of the table. Likewise, on a run that is underlined by another 3-0 defeat at the hands of Wycombe on August 20th, the Yorkshire-based outfit have continued to show a string of issues at the back. Shipping 11 strikes on their four-match winless run, Barnsley will know that they face a real task here. Given Wednesday’s continued success at Hillsborough, we’re backing a home victory for the promotion chasers this weekend.
