Two Irish Premier Division sides that are seeking some kind of boost this weekend, Sligo Rovers will host the Finn Harps on Saturday night.
Starting with the hosts, last seen back on May 27th when missing out on what was a golden opportunity, Sligo will be hoping to kickstart their campaign here. Having to settle for a 1-1 draw away at landslide relegation favourites UC Dublin prior to the international break, John Russell’s men have once again struggled with their consistency over recent months. Although the Reds might have shocked many across the Premier Division as they picked up a 2-1 victory at home against Derry City last month, it appears that was just a minor boost for Sligo. In fact, that is their only top-flight win from any of their last seven attempts, a run that stems back to an action-packed 3-2 victory against Drogheda on April 29th. Likewise, it should also be noted, Saturday’s hosts have seen each of their last seven Premier Division matchups finish with both teams finding the net.
As for the visitors, while the Finn Harps might have also been last seen heading into the international break with a 2-2 draw against Derry City, it does not cover what has been a dreadful run of form. Although Ollie Horgan’s men might have just managed to hang onto their top-flight status last season, it appears that the Ballybofey-based outfit are freefalling their way out of the Premier Division this time around. Opening Saturday’s meeting sat 11 points adrift in the relegation play-off zone, the Harps have also managed to muster themselves just a single victory since March 18th. Gaining a reputation for their rather glaring struggles at the back, it should also be noted that Horgan’s side have shipped over 1.5 goals in seven of their last eight fixtures on the road. However, with three of the last four meetings between Saturday’s opponents finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome.
