Competition: League Two

Market: Walsall double chance

Odds: 11/20 @ 888sport

Looking to spring an upset on the road this weekend, Walsall will make the trip to Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon when they meet Tranmere.

Starting with the hosts, while Tranmere might have managed to sign off 2022 with a pair of much-needed victories against Barrow and Doncaster, Micky Mellon’s side are desperate to try and find some stability in the New Year. Last seen on January 7th throwing away the lead as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw at home against Sutton, the Merseyside-based outfit have won just a pair of their last 14 straight matchups across all formats. With that run stemming all the way back to October 18th, the Rovers have also continued to show some extended issues on home soil. On a run that is highlighted by a routine 2-0 loss at the hands of AFC Wimbledon, it should be noted that Tranmere have won just one of their last six showdowns at Prenton Park. Almost finding themselves sat in League Two limbo, Mellon’s struggling squad could face another tough test here.

As for the visitors, extending on their FA Cup adventure last weekend thanks to an eye-catching 2-1 win away at Stockport, Walsall are in the midst of a stellar purple patch. Opening 2023 with another 2-1 victory at home against Mansfield, the Saddlers have skyrocketed their way up the League Two table. Now sat just a pair of points adrift of finding a shock route into the play-off places, Michael Flynn’s side have won six of their last seven matchups across all formats. In fact, on what has been an astonishing run of form, it should be noted that Walsall have suffered just a single defeat from their previous 12 straight appearances – a run that stems all the way back to October 18th. Likewise, unbeaten on their travels since the middle of October, Saturday’s guests should be smelling an opportunity to lay down another marker here. Given the recent gulf in class, we’re backing an away double chance this weekend.

Bet: Walsall double chance against Tranmere 11/20 for Saturday’s League Two battle @ 888sport
