Competition: Belgium Pro League
Market: Westerlo win
Odds: 8/11 @ BetUS
Looking to sign off the 2024/25 campaign with a final Pro League flurry, Westerlo will welcome St. Liege to the Het Kuipja on Saturday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Westerlo might have once again missed out on the chance to book a top-half return this season, Timmy Simons’ camp are signing off proceedings with a flurry. Making an immediate return to winning ways last week as they clinched a 2-0 victory away at Leuven, the Yellows will now be looking to secure consecutive Pro League wins for the first time since returning from March’s international break. Getting May underway with an action-packed 4-2 win against Dender, the Antwerp-based outfit have suffered just a single defeat from any of their previous eight outings. Smelling a real opportunity this weekend, the former Club Brugge coach has seen his squad find a recent clinical edge in the final third. Including a 3-2 victory away at KV Mechelen on April 22nd, Westerlo have recorded at least a pair of goals in all of their last five appearances. It should also be noted, Simons’ camp are unbeaten at the Het Kuipje over the past three months.
As for the visitors, while St. Liege might have managed to keep hold of their Pro League status this season, it has been another campaign to forget for Ivan Leko’s downbeat squad. Now playing out consecutive 0-0 stalemates against Dender and KV Mechelen over the past fortnight, the Reds have remarkably failed to win any of their previous 12 consecutive appearances – a rut that stems all the way back to February 23rd. Getting May underway with a 1-0 defeat at home against Charleroi, Saturday’s guests have also shown some glaring issues in the final third. Along with drawing three blanks on the bounce, St. Liege have also notched just a single strike in almost 500 minutes of action. Pencilled in as a real underdog this weekend, Les Rouches will also be concerned by a nightmare record at the Het Kuipje. It should be noted, Leko’s side have collected just one-point from any of their last five straight Pro League trips to Westerlo.
