Bodo/Glimt’s fairytale run in the Champions League continued as they edged closer to the quarter-finals with a 3-0 win over Sporting CP.

Sondre Fet, Ole Didrik Blomberg and Kasper Hogh were all on target at Aspmyra Stadion, giving the Norwegian side a huge advantage heading into the second leg of the last-16 tie.

Bodo immediately penned Sporting back and almost opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but Jens Petter Hauge’s volley from Hakon Evjen’s cross went narrowly wide.

Evjen was involved again soon after, but he was thwarted by the legs of visiting goalkeeper Rui Silva, with his save setting up a blistering counter led by Trincao, but when faced one-on-one with Nikita Haikin, Luis Guilherme could not find the opening goal.

However, the hosts were handed the chance to take the lead when Fet was barged over inside the box by Georgios Vagiannidis, with the Bodo midfielder dusting himself down to coolly dispatch the resulting penalty in the 32nd minute.

And it got even better for Kjetil Knutsen’s side in first-half stoppage time after Hauge’s deflected pass fell kindly to Blomberg, who brilliantly finished into the bottom-right corner.

Sporting improved after the break and saw Luis Suarez force Haikin into a save at his near post, but Hogh put the result beyond doubt in the 71st minute.

Hauge twisted and turned down the left-hand side before sending a dangerous cross into the box which was met by Hogh, who got himself in between Nuno Santos and Goncalo Inacio to settle the first leg.

Data Debrief: Free-scoring Bodo begin to believe

Bodo have now become only the fifth team from outside of Europe’s top five leagues to win five consecutive games in the Champions League, and their free-flowing attack may well have them thinking they could achieve something even more special this season.

Blomberg’s strike saw him become the fourth Bodo player to record 5+ goal involvements in the Champions League (including Hogh, Hauge and Fet), with only Bayern Munich having more players with more goal contributions in the competition in 2025-26 (five).

Hogh, meanwhile, has now netted five Champions League goals this season, the joint-most by a Danish player in a single campaign (level with Nicklas Bendtner in 2009-10 and Rasmus Hojlund in 2023-24).

And Bodo were more than worthy of their win here, having registered an expected goals (xG) total of 2.46 from their 10 shots compared to Sporting’s 0.51 from the nine attempts they managed.
