Borussia Dortmund thrashed Wolfsburg 4-0 to boost their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Dortmund have endured a difficult campaign, but a fifth Bundesliga win from their last six matches has them in fourth spot with just two games left to play.

Fifth-place Freiburg are on the same points as BVB, who will be hoping for a favour from Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday.

Serhou Guirassy and Karim Adeyemi were the stars of the show at Signal Iduna Park, with each of them scoring twice.

Guirassy struck after just three minutes, charging into the box and pouncing on some sloppy defending to tuck home before adding another just before the hour, capping off a superb passing move.

Substitute Adeyemi then took matters into his own hands with two goals in four minutes.

He struck in the 69th, two minutes after coming on, following a superb solo 35-metre run and then made it 4-0 with a similar effort to add further gloss to an emphatic victory for Niko Kovac’s side.

Data Debrief: The chase is on

When it has been time to put their foot to the floor, Dortmund have stepped up. They have taken 16 points from the last 18 on offer, more than any other Bundesliga team in that time.

Dortmund’s charge has been led by Guirassy, who has now netted 19 league goals this season.

Guirassy is just the second player to score 18+ goals in consecutive Bundesliga seasons for two different clubs (having scored 28 for Stuttgart last term) after Timo Konietzka (22 for Dortmund in 1964-65 and 26 for 1860 Munich in 1965-66).

Though Dortmund only had as many attempts (11) as Wolfsburg, they were far better chances, with the hosts rounding off with 2.56 expected goals compared to their visitors’ 0.7.
