In what could be an extremely lively encounter on Friday night, Bundesliga high-flyers Schalke and Union Berlin will meet at the VELTINS-Arena.

Starting with the hosts, putting in another eye-catching display and picking up a 2-1 win away at Werder Bremen last weekend, former Huddersfield boss David Wagner finds his side enjoying quite the purple patch. Schalke have now won three of their last four appearances and have not tasted defeat across any formats since the 20th of October. Knowing that another victory on Friday would take them just a single point adrift of league leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Royal Blues have a growing reputation for their high-scoring encounters. While Schalke may have found the net 12 times in their last four appearances, they have failed to record a single clean sheet in any of those outings, including shipping a trio against Fortuna Dusseldorf on home soil earlier in the month.

As for the visitors, putting in what was a famous performance and picking up a 2-0 win over league leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend, the Bundesliga debutants have continued to take Germany by storm. Union Berlin have now won each of their last five matches across all competitions and the mood in the capital remains the highest it has been in their history. With the chance to break into the top half of the Bundesliga standings, it will undoubtedly be their form in the final third most impressing Head Coach Urs Fischer. Friday’s guests have bagged eight goals in their last three victories and their trip to the VELTINS-Arena could prove to be another lively encounter.
