Iliman Ndiaye’s first-half penalty secured back-to-back wins for Everton, who edged out Brighton 1-0 at the American Express Stadium.

Ndiaye scored for the second match running as the Toffees claimed all three points in what was David Moyes’ 700th Premier League game in charge.

The Senegalese netted from 12 yards just before half-time after Joel Veltman was pulled up for handball by the referee following a VAR review.

Brighton controlled large periods of the second half as they pushed for an equaliser, but the visitors held out to record successive league victories for the first time since April.

Moyes’ side remain 16th but move seven points clear of 18th-placed Ipswich Town, who were beaten 4-1 by leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Brighton stay ninth after missing the chance to close the gap on the top four, from which they are now seven points adrift.

Data Debrief: Moyes joins Fergie and Wenger

Moyes oversaw only his second Premier League win over Brighton in 11 attempts (drawing five, losing four).

It was an ideal way to mark his 700th match in charge in the division, making him the third manager to reach that milestone after Arsene Wenger (828) and Alex Ferguson (810).

Ndiaye was the hero, as he scored in back-to-back Premier League games for the first time. The Senegal international has now netted more times in his last six matches in the division (three) than he did in his first 17 appearances (two).
