Buffon to leave Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon will leave Juventus at the end of the season, the goalkeeping legend has confirmed, but he has not yet made up his mind about retiring. After six seasons at Parma, Buffon moved to Juventus in 2001 and has been there ever since.

In a special press conference at the Allianz Stadium, Buffon said he is proud to have played to the best of his ability up to now, putting in performances that reflect his own quality as well as the greatness of the club. He is calm and happy about making the decision.

His last game for Juventus will be against Verona on Saturday in Turin, and with the Serie A title already in the bag it will be a huge occasion for him as he says goodbye to the club and the fans. Buffon’s decision on whether he wants to continue playing or stay in football in an off-pitch capacity will depend on his own assessment of whether he still possesses the drive and strength needed at top level, as he has no desire to play in lower leagues.
