Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and his run of seven goals in six games should not come as a surprise, believes Leeds United boss Daniel Farke.

Leeds rallied from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, extending their unbeaten run to five Premier League matches.

With two wins and three draws, they have taken more points in this span (nine) than they did in their previous 12 league matches (eight – two wins, two draws, eight losses).

And Leeds can credit their resurgence both to Farke’s new 3-5-2 formation and to a stunning run of form from Calvert-Lewin.

The former Everton man has scored in six consecutive Premier League games, netting seven times in total.

He is the first Leeds player to score in six successive matches in the top flight since John McCole in 1959-60, while he is the 11th English player to do so in the Premier League, and the first since Joe Willock netted in seven games in a row for Newcastle United in 2021.

Calvert-Lewin’s goal on Wearside was a team effort, as all 11 Leeds players touched the ball uninterrupted in the build-up, with that having only occurred for one previous goal in the Premier League this season (Rio Ngumoha, Liverpool v Newcastle).

But Farke focused on Calvert-Lewin’s lethal finishing in the aftermath of Sunday’s game.

“He deserves all the praise. He is in record form and long may it continue,” Farke told Sky Sports.

“It’s his job, he should score the goals, but I would also always back him to be there.

“I was not surprised by this run because, for me, he is one of the best strikers in this league and he shows this quality in more or less every game.”

Calvert-Lewin already has more than twice as many Premier League goals this season (eight) as he managed in his final campaign with Everton (three in 2024-25).

He will look to continue his hot streak on the other side of Merseyside on New Year’s Day, as Leeds take on Liverpool at Anfield.
