Chelsea to release Aubameyang?

According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are considering the possibility of allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer this summer, despite there being 12 months more on his contract.

Having spent four years at Arsenal, the Gabonese striker left London in January 2022 and joined Barcelona, only to return to the UK capital and sign a two-year deal with Chelsea the following summer. Now, however, it seems he’s deemed surplus to requirements again and as Chelsea seek to cut down on their overcrowded squad, he could be on his way back to Barcelona. Apparently, the Catalan club are exploring his return to the Camp Nou to add a decent cover option for Robert Lewandowski upfront.

Since signing for Chelsea, the 33-year-old has scored just three goals and provided one assist in 21 appearances across all competitions for the London Blues. He didn’t seem to have a place in Graham Potter’s plans, but he has been given another chance by Frank Lampard. Unfortunately from their point of view, Chelsea lost all six matches they’ve played with Lampard in charge.
