Cherki earns first France call-up for Nations League Finals

Rayan Cherki has earned his maiden call-up to the France senior squad for the Nations League Finals.

France face Spain in the semi-finals in Stuttgart on 5 June, with Germany or Portugal then awaiting in either the final or a third-placed play-off three days later.

Cherki was part of the 25-man squad named by Didier Deschamps on Wednesday after impressing for Lyon.

The 21-year-old scored 12 goals and assisted 19 in 42 Ligue 1 and Europa League games combined for Les Gones this campaign.

Arsenal defender William Saliba is a big-name absentee for France due to injury, while Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde and Eduardo Camavinga also miss out.

With Wesley Fofana also not included, Juventus’ Pierre Kalulu is another selected by Deschamps for the first time.

Malo Gusto, Clement Lenglet and Loic Bade are also recalled.
