City boss Guardiola hints at summer departures

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed he expects some of his players to leave the club in the summer.

The Premier League leaders have a very deep squad, and speaking to the press ahead of facing his former assistant Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday, Guardiola said many players deserved to stay at the club for ‘many, many years’, but was forced to admit that some of them, who don’t play as often as they would like, are refusing to accept such a role.

Two veterans, Striker Sergio Aguero and midfielder Fernandinho, who have both been vital for City’s incredible success over the last decade, will be out of contract at the end of the season and their respective futures remain unclear. The same goes for Eric Garcia, with the 20-year-old centre-back strongly linked with Barcelona for a long time.

Guardiola did very well in terms of rejuvenating his team this term. Winger Ferran Torres, and especially defender Ruben Dias, have both made significant impact in their rise to the top of the table having only arrived last summer, while Phil Foden has strongly established himself as a regular part of the starting XI as well.
