David De Gea is close to signing a new contract with Manchester United, according to The Guardian.
The goalkeeper’s current deal is set to expire next summer after the club already activated a 12-month extension, though his future has been the subject of many speculative reports for several years regardless. Real Madrid were strongly linked before they ended up signing Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea last year. Paris Saint-Germain have also been mentioned, and most recently, it was Juventus who expressed an interest and desire to bring him to Turin on a free next summer, like they did with Adrian Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey.
However, it appears that final details are being discussed on a fresh deal which would see the Spaniard earn in the same region as Paul Pogba – a basic salary of £290,000 per week.
Upon his appointment as a caretaker manager at the turn of the year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was tasked with convincing important players to commit their futures to the club. Anthony Martial signed a new deal in January, and should De Gea do the same, it’ll be considered a great success by the Norwegian.
