David De Gea’s time at Manchester United was constantly riddled with transfer speculations for a while, with a return to Madrid (this time with Real rather than Atletico) heavily spoken about right up until last summer, when it was actually Thibaut Courtois who left Chelsea to go back to the Spanish capital, having spent time on loan at Atletico.
Since then, there have been no fresh reports linking the Spain international goalkeeper with leaving Old Trafford, and United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward recently told the press in a conference call that the new contract for De Gea would be wrapped up by May.
However, it seems the talks aren’t going as smoothly as Woodward would have hoped. As Sky Sports claim, United were surprised by allegations that they were unwilling to pay the Spaniard £350,000 per week and have indicated that they would gladly accept that kind of agreement, but the demands set by De Gea’s agent seemed to be aiming even higher than that.
