Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward held a conference call with members of the press on Thursday, during which he revealed his belief that David De Gea will sign a new contract with the club by May.
De Gea was strongly linked with returning to Madrid in recent seasons as Real kept expressing strong interest in his services, but with the Champions League holders signing Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea last summer, the Spanish international goalkeeper has apparently turned a new leaf and his future seems to be at Old Trafford.
The news will certainly be welcome for United fans. De Gea has been a standout performer, arguably United’s best player, for several years. His saves have often won his team points and earned him the status of one of the best goalkeepers on the planet.
Meanwhile, Woodward also revealed that striker Marcus Rashford, who has been the preferred choice upfront ahead of Romelu Lukaku since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over as the manager, is the next player in line for a new deal.
