De Zerbi backs Spurs to win final five games and avoid relegation

Roberto De Zerbi believes Tottenham have the quality to win their final five games of the season and allay any fears over relegation.

Spurs missed a golden opportunity to move out of the Premier League’s bottom three on Saturday, as they conceded a 95th-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Brighton.

Having already been pegged back in first-half stoppage time, Spurs suffered the same fate in the second period as Georginio Rutter’s sucker punch cancelled out Xavi Simons’ curler.

Tottenham remain the only Premier League team without a victory in 2026, having drawn six and lost nine of their last 15 matches in the competition.

And, ahead of rivals Nottingham Forest and West Ham taking to the field on Sunday and Monday, respectively, the Opta supercomputer assigns Spurs a 54.6% chance of relegation.

They could find themselves four points adrift of safety by the time they travel to Wolves next week, with their other remaining fixtures pitting them against Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea and Everton.

But De Zerbi remains bullish regarding their prospects, saying: “I always believe in the qualities of the players.

“They played a good game. I think we can play better than today, with more quality, calmer, especially when we are in possession.

“But in this moment, we need this spirit, this attitude, this mentality, and it is not finished yet. We have another five games. It is tough.

“Every one of us knows it is a tough moment, a difficult situation, but we have another five games, 15 points, and this team is able to win five games in a row.

“Now it is difficult to hear my words, but if you watch the players, if you analyse the level of the players, I think we can win five games in a row.

“I’m not being arrogant, because I am not arrogant, especially now, but we have the qualities to fight and to win games in a row.”

De Zerbi has won just one of his last 12 matches in the Premier League (D3 L8) across spells with Brighton and Tottenham.

The Italian has also failed to win either of his opening two games in both of his stints in the competition (D1 L1, also with Brighton in October 2022).
