December 31st: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 6/1

With the Premier League once again taking center stage this weekend, we are set for another Saturday of non-stop action. So, for those of you looking to stick on a Saturday acca, we have found a few helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday December 31st

BST 13:00 Albion Rovers vs Dumbarton

While Dumbarton might have lost their League One status last season, it looks like Saturday’s guests are skyrocketing their way towards an immediate third-tier return. Last seen on Christmas Eve claiming a deserved 2-0 victory at home against East Fife, Stephen Farrell’s men find themselves holding a four-point buffer at the top of the table. Although the Whites might have endured a brief wobble when opening October, the former Stranraer boss has seen his side come roaring back. Now tipped as a runaway pick in the New Year, Dumbarton are unbeaten in each of their last nine straight matchups across all formats. With that run highlighted by a 4-0 romp away at Elgin on November 12th, Farrell’s side have continued to shine with their displays in the final third. On the flip side, while the Sons might be cruising their way towards an immediate League One return, Albion Rovers are enduring what has been a fourth-tier nightmare this season. Last seen on December 23rd when getting hit with a woeful 5-1 drumming away at Annan, Saturday’s hosts have now lost each of their last three appearances. Sat rock-bottom of the table, Brian Reid’s side will know they face a tough test here. With Dumbarton claiming a 2-1 victory in their last trip to Coatbridge, we’re backing a similar away win this weekend.

Tip: Dumbarton win @ 12/11

15:00 Fulham vs Southampton

While Fulham might have only made their Premier League return this season, the Cottagers have continued on an eye-catching flurry so far this season. Marking their return from the World Cup break on Boxing Day as they cruised their way to a stellar 3-0 romp away at Crystal Palace, Marco Silva’s men find themselves battling it out in the top-half of the table. Although the former Everton boss might have seen his side head into the interval with back-to-back 2-1 losses against Manchester United and Manchester City, the west London outfit have also impressed with their rugged displays at Craven Cottage. On a run that is highlighted by a 3-0 victory against Aston Villa back in October, Fulham have lost just two Premier League home fixtures since making their top-flight return. With attacking talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic already mustering 10 strikes and once again getting on the scoresheet against Palace earlier in the week, a downbeat Southampton squad could face another tricky test here. While the Saints might have turned to now-former Luton boss Nathan Jones last month, Saturday’s guests are tipped as a leading contender in the relegation race. Marking their return on Boxing Day with a 3-1 drumming at home against Brighton, they have recorded just a sole Premier League victory since the end of August.

Tip: Fulham win @ 20/21

15:00 Newcastle vs Leeds

Marking their return from the World Cup break with another stellar display on Boxing Day, Newcastle find themselves in the midst of what has been a remarkable run of form. Last seen earlier in the week storming their way to a 3-0 romp away at Leicester, Eddie Howe’s men now have their sights firmly set on clinching a famous Champions League finish in 2023. Opening the New Year with the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, the former Bournemouth boss has seen his side gain a string of plaudits. Likewise, along with heading into the festive interval with a deserved 1-0 win at home against Chelsea on November 12th, the Magpies should be confident of laying down another marker here. Expected to be backed by a vocal home support at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, Newcastle have suffered just a single Premier League defeat this season. Quickly gaining a reputation for their defensive steel, Howe’s side will be looking to cash in on a Leeds squad who are at the heart of another relegations scrap. Making a return to top-flight action with a 3-1 loss at home against defending champions Manchester City, the Yorkshire-based outfit have now won just a pair of their last 12 Premier League showdowns. Facing another huge test this weekend, we’re backing another fairly routine victory for a high-flying Newcastle.
