Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe is set to join Glasgow Rangers on loan, according to Sky Sports.
The 36-year-old, who is among the top 10 goal scorers in the history of the Premier League and has 57 caps for England under his belt, will move to Scotland on an 18-month loan. The deal reflects the intention of manager Steven Gerrard to increase the competition in his attacking department, as he targets winning the Scottish Premier League title in his first season with the club. After Rangers beat their fierce city rivals Celtic recently, the two teams are tied at the top of the table.
Despite his age, Bournemouth aren’t prepared to give up on Defoe’s services completely. The agreement, accepted by all parties, apparently doesn’t rule a premature return to the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries will have an option to cut the loan short and recall the striker, both in the summer this year and in January, 2020.
