Marseille chairman Pape Diouf has dramatically departed the club after talks with the French league giants’ main shareholder Robert Louis-Dreyfus, club sources said Wednesday.

Former players’ agent and sports journalist Diouf had been running the club, which finished second in the league last season, since 2005.

The billionaire owner had summoned Diouf to his home in Switzerland for discussions following a very public row about how Marseille should be run.

Louis-Dreyfus is expected to issue a statement later Wednesday about the reasons for 58-year-old Diouf’s departure.
