Drenthe’s agent welcomes Benfica interest

Real Madrid midfielder Royston Drenthe is keen on a move to Benfica, his agent has revealed.

The Dutch midfielder has been deemed surplus to requirements upon returning to Madrid from loan spell at Hercules and he is now looking for a new club.

The player has been linked to numerous clubs including Benfica and Sporting, with his agent revealing that Drenthe would like to join Benfica.

“Of course he likes Benfica,” Sigi Lens told A Bola.

“Benfica is a giant and Portugal has a very strong and competitive league. This is a scenario that a football player always likes.

“However, there are more than two months to finalize the signings. Many clubs have inquired about Drenthe but nothing concrete.

“We have no news from Benfica or Sporting. Nor has Madrid, whose colours the player represents, indicated anything.”
