Eriksen not reassuring on Spurs contract

Christian Eriksen spoke about his future after Denmark’s goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland on Monday in the UEFA Nations League, but his words were still extremely inconclusive.

He apparently tried to play down reports linking him with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, but all he actually said was that he didn’t believe those reports, at least not based on what he himself knows. On the other hand, the Danish attacking midfielder admitted that he wasn’t any closer to signing a new contract.

The talks between the player and the club recently reached an impasse, and it seems there haven’t been any fresh developments since then. That might be down to Eriksen being away on international duty at the moment, but his failure to give any assurances or even indications about putting pen to paper soon seems to suggest otherwise.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus are said to be monitoring the situation closely, and his current deal running out in the summer of 2020 might force Spurs to consider cashing in early.
