With all of this summer’s attention focused on EURO 24, the action will officially get underway when host nation Germany welcome Scotland to Munich on Friday night.

With it looking like much of the pre-tournament attention has been fixed on the powerhouse duo of England and France, all of Europe’s elite are looking to write their own chapter in the history books.

As the likes of former European champions Portugal look to spring another almighty upset this summer, there are plenty of contenders that are eyeing a late charge.

Ahead of what looks set to be a month of non-stop European action, we have taken a look at who the bookmakers have installed as their standout candidates to be crowned EURO 24 champions.

Is this finally England’s year to end 58 years of hurt?

While England might have signed off their pre-EURO 24 preparations with a shock 1-0 loss at home against Iceland, the Three Lions still find themselves pencilled in as a standout contender over in Germany this summer.

Suffering World Cup frustration out in Qatar 18 months ago as they eventually had to settle for a quarter-final finish in the Middle East, Gareth Southgate’s squad have plenty of pressure on their shoulders over the next month.

Remarkably failing to get their hands on a single piece of international silverware since their iconic World Cup success way back in 1966, this current crop of English superstars are rightfully billed as a real golden generation.

Cruising their way to this summer’s European Championships and not suffering a single qualifying defeat last year, England will be looking to make an early statement of intent when they open their Group C adventure against Serbia on Sunday night.

France seeking an immediate major tournament response

Hit with major World Cup agony in the winter of 2022 as they relinquished their crown and number-one status to South American giants Argentina, France will be looking to reestablish their dominance this summer.

Making the decision to stick with Didier Deschamps following their World Cup final heartbreak 18 months ago, Les Bleus are still regarded as one of the most complete international squads from across world football.

Mustering 22 points from their eight qualifying appearances last year and hardly having to get out of third gear as they stormed their way to this summer’s tournament, France are expected to mount a genuine charge over in Germany.

With attacking icon Kylian Mbappe officially completing a blockbuster move to Spanish heavyweights Real Madrid, Deschamps’ squad are now looking to claim a first European trophy since back in 2000.

Getting proceedings underway on June 17th when they meet Austria, France will be more than aware that they have plenty of eyes on them.

Germany backed by an emotional home support

Although Germany might have automatically booked their spot at this summer’s European Championships as the host nation, the European powerhouse have struggled to find any kind of stability on the major tournament stage.

Remarkably failing to progress out of the group stage during their infamous World Cup nightmare out in the Middle East, the Nationalelf have a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders this summer.

However, picking up a pair of heavyweight scalps during March’s international break as they clinched back-to-back victories against France and Holland, Germany do appear to have turned a recent corner.

With it confirmed last month that Julian Nagelsmann would remain in charge heading into this summer’s showpiece event, Germany are enjoying their longest unbeaten run over the past two years.

Opening EURO 24 when they meet Scotland in Munich for their first Group A showdown, Germany will certainly be backed by an emotional home support as they look to get their hands on a first European crown since 1996.
