Everton eyeing Kevin Strootman

Premier League outfit Everton are considering a January bid for AS Roma hotshot Kevin Strootman, the Daily Mirror has suggested.

The Toffees aim to sign a long-term replacement for Gareth Barry, who will turn 36 in February and they have made the Netherlands international their number one target.

Everton manager Ronald Koeman is well aware of his compatriot’s qualities and he will attempt to bring him to Goodison Park in the January transfer window.

Strootman returned into action after a length injury lay-off near the end of last season and he already appears back to his best.

The 26-year-old has reclaimed a starting berth at both Roma and the Netherlands national team, scoring once in eight Serie A appearances this season.

Strootman remains regarded as one of Europe’s leading central midfielders, and Everton could face stiff competition for his signature if they decide to make their interest concrete.
