Farke warns wasteful finishing could have cost Leeds at Coventry

Daniel Farke was delighted with many elements of Leeds United’s performance in their 2-0 win over Coventry City, though wanted to see more composure in front of goal.

Leeds made it 14 games unbeaten in all competitions as they pounced on two lapses in concentration from Frank Lampard’s Coventry on Wednesday.

Joel Piroe put the Whites ahead at CBS Arena, where Jayden Bogle doubled their tally before the interval.

Leeds could have had a penalty when Brenden Aaronson was barged into by Joel Latibeaudiere, while they missed a glut of chances to extend their lead, having 20 shots overall and finishing with 2.7 expected goals.

And finishing is an area Farke wants to see improvement in.

He said: “To show such a performance and such a fully deserved win is quite impressive, I’m happy with so many details, how we dominated the game, how we built up, how we created chances.

“Happy with the three points, a fifth clean sheet in a row, but I also have to say we were pretty wasteful in using the chances.

“We have to be much more efficient. When you play such a strong side, you usually can’t waste so many chances.

“It was also crazy how we didn’t get a penalty for the tackle on Brenden Aaronson. But I’m a bit critical, definitely, about our [lack] of cutting edge.”

Coventry had won their last four matches and were on a six-match unbeaten streak at home under Lampard.

Leeds, who have lost just three of their last 22 games against Coventry, are now five points clear of Burnley in second and Sheffield United in third, though the Blades do have a game in hand.
