Fenerbahce have reportedly informed Leicester City loanee Islam Slimani that they have no place for him in their ranks. According to Leicester Mercury, the striker has been told to find a new club.
Having spent four seasons with CR Belouizdad in his homeland of Algeria, the 30-year-old spent the following three with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and he arrived to the King Power Stadium on the last day of the 2016 summer transfer window in a deal which saw the Foxes set the still holding transfer record by paying £28 million for his services. He signed a five-year deal, but his time with Leicester wasn’t very memorable. He scored 13 goals in 47 appearances in a year and a half, before going out on loan to Newcastle for the second half of the 2017/18 season. He did even worse there, wearing the Magpies’ shirt just four times and not registering a single goal. Last summer he joined Fenerbahce for this season, but he has had no luck in Turkey either, appearing only once in their last seven games.
His return to Leicester is unlikely, despite two and a half years remaining on his contract. A return to Sporting is an option this summer.
