Fiorentina trying to persuade Montolivo into signing a new deal

Fiorentina have reopened negotiations with Ricardo Montolivo regarding the new contract. The club officials say they had received no offers for the Italy international.

Ricardo Montolivo was close to agreeing to a new deal during the World Cup in South Africa but his demands were some €100,000 higher than what the club were willing to offer.

Viola sporting director Pantaleo Corvino admits that now the negotiations for the contract extension are pretty complicated.

“On Wednesday I said some things in the light of demands by Ricardo and his representatives, on the duration and economic aspects of the contract. Ever since he was just a kid, we always focused on him, we’ve proposed the renewal for five years.

“While it was obvious that some things needed to be sorted out, the difference was so small that we expected to close the deal immediately after the World Cup. Now, we have taken note of the new situation.”
