Juan Foyth has joined Villarreal on a season-long loan deal after signing a new contract with Tottenham.

The 22-year-old Argentina defender has not played a competitive game for Spurs this year and will spend the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign in Spain.

His move was announced on Sunday by Tottenham, who also said Foyth had signed a one-year extension to his deal with the Premier League club.

That means Foyth has a Tottenham contract that runs until 2023, but may have played his last game for the north London side.

Foyth has made 32 appearances since arriving from Estudiantes in August 2017, but the loan could become a permanent switch if Foyth impresses in LaLiga.

Villarreal, in announcing Foyth’s signing, stated: “The loan agreement has a purchase option at the end of the season.”

Foyth has been selected in Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Ecuador and Bolivia.
