Bayern Munich sealed their 34th Bundesliga crown after title rivals Bayer Leverkusen were held to a 2-2 draw away to Freiburg on Sunday.

Leverkusen knew a victory would be enough to delay Bayern’s celebrations after Vincent Kompany’s side drew 3-3 with RB Leipzig 24 hours earlier.

And though able to salvage a point through Jonathan Tah’s stoppage-time equaliser, on what was his 400th Leverkusen appearance, they were unable to find a winner.

Freiburg, battling to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League, came out fighting but had to wait until the 44th minute to open the scoring.

Maximilian Eggestein’s thunderous effort put them in front, with their lead doubled three minutes after the restart thanks to an own goal from Piero Hincapie.

Florian Wirtz pulled a goal back for Xabi Alonso’s men with eight minutes to go, before Tah’s header levelled the scores in the third minute of time added on.

Despite late heroics once again, Leverkusen finally relinquished their crown after winning the title during the last campaign and will end their season without a trophy.

Bayern now have an unassailable eight-point lead over Leverkusen with two games of the campaign remaining.

Data Debrief: Leverkusen equal unbeaten away record

Despite the disappointment of officially losing the title, Leverkusen were able to continue their impressive away form, equalling a Bundesliga record in the process.

Alonso’s team are now unbeaten in their last 33 league games away from home, matching Bayern’s record that they set between 2012 and 2014.

It wasn’t a particularly impressive performance from Leverkusen, though. They ended the contest with an expected goals (xG) total of 0.33 from just five shots.
